Alexander Thompson, Psy.D.

Dr. Thompson is a post-doctoral fellow offering individual psychotherapy to young adults, adults, and individuals pursuing higher education. He enjoys joining clients in their journeys of self-growth and approaches therapy with warmth, acceptance, and respect to identity.  In session, he is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy but integrates components of Relational-Cultural Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and mindfulness. Dr. Thompson also recognizes the importance of social justice in empowering clients and building a kinder overall community. He strives to assist clients pursue that which they find to be most meaningful in life, equipped with the resilience to accept and face challenges. 

Dr. Thompson has specific clinical interests in: 

  • Anxiety 
  • Depression  
  • PTSD/trauma 
  • Issues of multiculturalism and diversity 
  • The role of gender identity and sexuality  
  • Sports Psychology 

Dr. Thompson earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Nova Southeastern University in Florida after finishing his undergraduate studies at Drake University in Iowa as a student-athlete. He completed an APA-approved internship at Suffolk University’s center for Counseling, Health and Wellness. He also has previous experience working in the counseling center at Florida Atlantic University and community mental health.
