Dr. Utley provides individual and couples psychotherapy for adults and adolescents. His approach to psychotherapy primarily utilizes an emotion-focused approach, with the inclusion of self-compassion, mindfulness, and interpersonal process. This framework is flexible and seeks to meet the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of each client. Dr. Utley strongly values the client-therapist relationship and believes it is critical to co-creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. Dr. Utley earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver after first earning a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver. He completed his APA-accredited internship training at Montana State University Counseling and Psychological Services in Bozeman, Montana. Dr. Utley has extensive experience training in college counseling centers, managed care settings, and community mental health. Dr. Utley also has experience completing psychological assessment with adolescents and adults. He also has a strong interest and passion for working with international adoptee populations through community-based organizations and agencies. Dr. Utley sees clients in our Financial District office.
