CURRENT CLIENTS: Important Update: Potential Changes to Telehealth Benefits
Imagine being able to receive counseling & therapy or psychiatric medication consultation and treatment from the privacy and comfort of your own home. This is called TelePsych, and it’s transforming not only the way patients can receive therapy and behavioral health care, but making it possible for psychiatrists and therapists to reach and treat people who may otherwise face limitations to accessing mental health care.
TelePsych is when what would otherwise be regular office visits take place via secure video call. It’s a part of TeleMedicine, which is the use of electronic communications to deliver health services to patient without an in-person visit across all aspects of healthcare. Usually the only technology requirements a patient needs to access TelePsych services are a computer or laptop with a web cam & microphone and reliable high-speed internet access. Providers are required to offer TelePsych services through a secure, HIPAA compliant online platform so that the patient-provider relationship remains private.
Why use Telepsychiatry? There are so many benefits to both patients and providers who use TelePsych. They include:
Convenience
TelePsych makes it incredibly convenient for patients to receive behavioral health care. It decreases time off from work or time spent driving to in-office appointments. It also avoids the need to reschedule an appointment during bad weather.
Greater Accessibility to Mental Health Services
Telepsychiatry is helping to bring behavioral health care to patients who may live in areas with few mental health providers and would otherwise have to drive a great distance to an office or choose not to seek services. It also provides access to therapy and psychiatry to those with mobility limitations who may be unable to travel to in-office appointments.
It Saves Time
TelePsych helps both patients and providers optimize their time by eliminating the need to travel to and from an office location.
